Training

A complete fighter needs acquire six S'es:

  1. Strength
  2. Speed
  3. Stamina (Endurance)
  4. Skill (Strikes, blocks, movement)
  5. Strategy (What to do and when- how to work in different distances)
  6. Spirit (Fighting Spirit|Killer instinct|Controlled aggression)

Skills

Most of fighting systems has rich set of fighting skills, but miss progression that takes pure art and techniques and translates them to real fighting application. More over, usually many movement are misinterpreted and treated as fighting technique when in fact they are just training drills aimed to develop some specific attribute, like sensitivity or strength.

Usually basic skill within any FMA system are: numerados, abecidario (blocks, checks, counters), disarms, locks, flow (combine all above), spar (themed spar, free sparring). For some reason movement is completely skipped in program. There's a huge gap between the flow and sparring that needs to be filled up.

Numerados

Perform in random order - usually it is done symetric from to top of the body, left temple, right temple, etc. Try it: left temple + right knee, left lower ribcage + right temple, thrust to stomach + ascending diagaonal to right upper ribcage, ascending diagonal to left upper ribcage + thrust to throat (from right).

Abecidario

Feeding partner should use two stick to perform numerados. One have to do the same block and counter to specific angle attack no matter what hand feeder will use.

Expand abcediario to combination of block follow with counter, i.e. block to angle 1, block to angle 6 followed by counter.

Solo drills (Amara)

There are many fighting combination that encompass different types of attack at different angles. You can do them as shadow stick fighting, and perform them at different speed, with changing rhythm, and modifying the angles. What this miss is: movement, distance awareness, trigger that, something what opponent do that will caused specific sequence to be applied.

One have to:

  1. Combine solo drill with the movement in between.
  2. Boxing drills with a padded stick and pads.

Boxing drill

Like in western boxing, the feeder will show pads in some specific position. The performer will have to judge the distance and attack with agreed combination. In the beginning do only simple attacks:

  • dali dali
  • forehand ruyda
  • backhand ruyda
  • vetical abaniko
  • horizontal abaniko
  • redonda + backhand slash
  • upward figure eight

Once basic combinations they can be combined. Between combinations feeder should attack with agreed attack. Performer should evade or block the attack incorporating the movement.
